Batman: Arkham Origins

Batman: Arkham Origins===Preview===

Batman: Arkham Origins is an upcoming video game being developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the successor to the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City, and the third installment in the Batman: Arkham series. It is scheduled for release on October 25, 2013. Arkham Origins moved development away from series creators Rocksteady Studios, and is written by Corey May and Dooma Wendschuh. The game's main storyline is set five years before that of 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and follows a younger and less refined Batman who has a bounty placed on his head by crime lord Black Mask, drawing eight of the world's deadliest assassins to Gotham City on Christmas Eve. The game is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Arkham Origins is the first game in the series to feature multiplayer gameplay.

A companion game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, is scheduled for release alongside Arkham Origins for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

Arkham Origins will feature similar gameplay to its predecessors. The Remote Claw is a new gadget which allows Batman to target two objects and pull them together allowing him to knock enemies together or hit them with objects. Tethering two walled-points together creates a tightrope that Batman can traverse. The Shock Gloves allow Batman to block electric attacks, instantly disable some enemies and stun shielded ones, and short circuit some objects within the environment. Some gadgets present in the Batman: Arkham series return in Arkham Origins, including: the Cryptographic Sequencer, which is used for hacking security consoles; the batarang, a throwing weapon; the batclaw, used for hooking on to a surface; Smoke Pellets, used for stealthy exits and entries; Explosive Gel; and the Grapnel Accelerator, an earlier version of the "Grapnel Boost". The game introduces a fast travel system, allowing Batman to remotely summon his plane, the Batwing, to transport him to other areas of the game world quicker than gliding or grappling can allow.

Arkham Origins also introduces a multiplayer component to the series. One mode, called "Invisible Predator Online", revolves around a gang war between the supervillains Joker and Bane. It involves a match of 3 Joker gang members against 3 Bane gang members against the team of Batman and Robin. Arkham Origins features a large ensemble cast of characters from the history of Batman comics.

The events of Arkham Origins are set approximately five years before Batman: Arkham Asylum, in the middle of winter in fictional Gotham City. Batman is an experienced crime-fighter in the second year of his career, but has not yet become the veteran superhero portrayed in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. He remains a mysterious force with even the police unsure if he is a vigilante, a myth or supernatural. Batman has battled with traditional criminals and gangsters and is used to being stronger and faster than his targets. However, on a snowy Christmas Eve, he is confronted by far more dangerous foes: eight professional assassins aiming to collect the $50 million bounty put on Batman's head by the sadistic and brutal crime lord Black Mask.

I'm always in for a Batman game since Arkham Asylum & Arkham City. However, Origins has me a little worried. Can Warner Bros. Games deliver the same level that Rocksteady was able to achieve in the two previous games starring the Dark Knight? To be honest I don't expect them too, however, what I do expect is a nicely polished and overal decent Batman game that will still entertain fans. Warner Bros. will be sticking to what was made famous by Rocksteady, but there is nothing really wrong with that, it's just more of the same. Don't expect ground-shaking changes or innovations, but rather minor tweaks and new possibilities. What we WILL have is a new multiplayer involving Joker, Bane, Robin and the detective himself.. and that makes me curious. Will this really be Batman's "long halloween"..? We'll find out in October!

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Injustice: Gods Among Us===Review===

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game based upon the fictional universe of DC Comics. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.

The gameplay for Injustice: Gods Among Us involves one-on-one matches within a two-dimensional plane, although characters and backgrounds are rendered in a three-dimensional fashion. Each match consists of one round; however, each player has two health bars. The game uses a four-button control layout of light, medium, and heavy attacks, alongside a "character trait" button that activates a unique ability or attack designed to showcase each character.For instance, Superman's trait provides a temporary stat boost, while Batman's trait summons a swarm of robotic bats. Ed Boon, the creative director of NetherRealm Studios, stated that characters roughly fall into two categories: power characters, who rely on brute strength and innate abilities, and gadget characters, who use weapons, items, and other external mechanisms to win. During combat, players charge their character's super meter by performing combos or getting hit by the opponent. Portions of the super meter can be used for performing enhanced special moves or countering enemy moves.

The campaign of Injustice: Gods Among Us was written by NetherRealm Studios in collaboration with DC Comics' writers as a stand-alone story. Described by NetherRealm as "Story Mode 3.0", the campaign was approached similarly to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot through the use of a cinematic narrative versus the traditional ladder-based single-player experience. According to Lead Designer John Edwards, the plot is meant to rationalize the game's fighting mechanics between characters that would not normally fight one another and explain how Batman can "stand toe-to-toe" with Superman. Writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti served as story consultants to ensure that the comic characters kept their proper voices in Injustice.

In an alternate reality, the Joker has tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and their unborn son and destroying Metropolis with a nuclear explosion. In retaliation, Superman murders the Joker and quickly loses his moral compass. He establishes a new world order as the High Councilor. A war ensues between the forces of Superman's Regime and those allied with Batman's Insurgency. Five years into the war, the Insurgency discovers the Justice League's universe where the Joker's plan did not succeed and transports several of its super heroes (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern, with Batman and the Joker being caught up in the transfer by accident) to their world in order to help them defeat the Regime. The roster was selected internally by NetherRealm Studios with input from DC Comics. The main goal during the selection process, which took around three to four months, was to create a cast featuring a wide range of characters with regards to size, ability, and level of superpower. Characters were also chosen based on criteria such as gender, popularity, and how well they fit within the Injustice storyline.

To be honest I'm not a big fan of arcade fighting games like these, but Injustice proves that this genre CAN be great! With moves and powers that really mirror every character's persona and level transitions that make you actually feel like a god, Injustice adds a new dimension to the fighter-genre. The buttonbindings are logic and effective, allowing you to chain multi-hit combos and, with practice, react to even the fastest of attacks. Though I am a fan of DC comics and their characters, even without this aspect in mind Injustice: Gods Among Us delivers a thrilling story experience along with smooth and natural-feeling gameplay. If you're not into fighting games and you want to try it for a change, now is your chance! Although the offline-multiplayer seems a bit shallow (only 1 vs 1 battles), the other online-multiplayer modes deliver plenty hours of entertainment. So whether you want to play solo or with friends, Injustice delivers an all-round entertaining experience with a story to match!

Company of Heroes 2

Company of Heroes 2===Review===

Company of Heroes 2 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega for the Microsoft Windows platform. It is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2006 game Company of Heroes.

As with the original Company of Heroes, the game is set in World War II but with the focus on the Eastern Front, with players going primarily on the side of the Soviet Red Army on various stages of the campaign, from Operation Barbarossa to the Battle of Berlin. Company of Heroes 2 runs on Relic Entertainment's proprietary Essence 3.0 game engine, which THQ claims allowed the developer to bring "new technological advancements" to the game. In January 2013, Sega acquired Relic Entertainment and along with it the Company of Heroes intellectual property from THQ.

The resource-generation system from the first game has been modified. Players will still capture specific flagged points all over the map to collect manpower, munitions, and fuel credits, which will be invested in assembling their units. Instead of the soldier units actually gathering at the flagged point itself, capturing the point is possible if the player's units are inside a specific zone with no enemy units in sight. Units can occupy a civilian building and use it as a temporary strongpoint. However, the occupants can be flushed out through attacks by artillery or soldiers using flamethrowers and grenades. The building-damage system from Company of Heroes is retained and enhanced; wooden buildings set afire will continue burning until they are reduced to cinders.

Combat includes controllable units that are recruited and ordered directly by the player (through the user interface at player-controlled buildings, or through a doctrine ability), as well as activated support actions, such as artillery bombardment or aircover suppression. Most combat takes place through direct, line-of-sight engagements. The game's veterancy system allows player units to gain more combat experience and improved fighting ability. The promotions are visible through an experience bar under a picture of the selected unit, which gains up to three stars if it is filled. Under-strength foot units can be merged.

The game's Essence 3.0 engine introduces the TruSight system, which aims to better emulate troop visibility in real combat. In contrast to overhead visibility seen in other strategy games, TrueSight more accurately represents a unit's visibility range based on environmental conditions and type of unit. Weather conditions are a major factor in Company of Heroes 2's gameplay, under the new ColdTech weather-simulation system. Since many battles in the Eastern Front occurred in winter weather, troops can die of frostbite if caught in the outside during severe weather; a thermometer-shaped bar to the left side of the unit icon denotes a soldier's body temperature.

Boy you wouldn't believe how long I'd been waiting to get my hands on this game! And to top all the waiting and postponing, THQ went bankrupt and the development of COH 2 was taken over by Sega. Despite all the fuss, the sequel to the 2006 game of the year RTS delivered. While not as innovating as its predecessor, the golden law of games applies here: Don't change something that WORKS. And COH's take on the RTS genre worked. Add to that a new weather system, a "Truesight" concept and new units in a new setting, and you've got yourselves a worthy sequel in both singleplayer and multiplayer terms! RTS fans, get COH 2 nowm, you owe it to yourself.

Xbox One

Xbox OneThe Xbox One is an upcoming video game console from Microsoft. Announced on May 21, 2013, it is the successor to the Xbox 360 and the third console in the Xbox family of consoles. The Xbox One is scheduled for release across North America, several European markets, Australia and New Zealand in November 2013, with later release in Japan and the remaining European markets in 2014. It will directly compete with Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U as part of the eighth generation of video game consoles. Microsoft and various publications have classified the device as an "all-in-one entertainment system," making it a competitor to other home media devices such as the Apple TV and the Google TV platform.

Moving away from the PowerPC based architecture used in the Xbox 360, the console features an AMD processor built around the x86-64 instruction set. The console places an increasing emphasis on entertainment and integration with the Kinect peripheral, offering the ability to use an existing set-top box to watch live television programming (augmented by an enhanced program guide with support for voice commands), a built-in Skype client, and improved second screen support. The console also provides new functionality for use in games, such as an expanded Xbox Live service, improved Kinect functionality, cloud computing, the ability to automatically record and share video highlights from gameplay, and integrated support for live streaming gameplay online. The console's initial policies surrounding online connectivity requirements, mandatory integration with Kinect, and ambiguous restrictions on the resale and sharing of used games led to mixed reviews and concerns after the console's reveal. In response to these criticisms, Microsoft announced they would be dropping all of the originally planned digital rights management and internet connection requirements, and the mandatory use of Kinect.

The Xbox One controller maintains the overall layout found in the Xbox 360 design. The directional pad has been changed to a four-way design, and the battery compartment is slimmer. Menu and View buttons have replaced the Start and Back buttons. Each trigger will also feature independent rumble motors called "Impulse Triggers", which allows developers to program directional vibration. The Xbox One will ship with an updated version of the Kinect sensor; the new Kinect uses a 1080p wide-angle time-of-flight camera (in comparison to the VGA resolution of the previous version), and processes 2 gigabits of data per second to read its environment. The new Kinect has greater accuracy over its predecessor, can track up to 6 skeletons at once, perform heart rate tracking, track gestures performed with an Xbox One controller, and scan QR codes to redeem Xbox Live gift cards.

Although I'm a Xbox fan, I will just have to wait and see if this new console will best the PS4, which had a head start on this year's E3 if you ask me.

GTA V

GTA V===Preview===

Grand Theft Auto V (commonly shortened as GTA V) is an open world, action-adventure video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is being developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, set for release on 17 September 2013. It is the first main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since Grand Theft Auto IV released in 2008, and the fifteenth entry overall. As it is one of the last titles to release exclusively in the seventh generation of video game consoles, it is considerably anticipated.
Grand Theft Auto V is a third-person shooter and is set in an open world recreation of Southern California. The world is composed of San Andreas, an open countryside area, and the fictional city of Los Santos, which is based on Los Angeles. Grand Theft Auto V is the first entry in the series to make use of an original score. To work on the score, the team brought Tangerine Dream on board with Woody Jackson, who had collaborated with the team on two previous projects, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire (2011).

The narrative of the game follows three characters with interconnected stories. Michael is a retired former bank robber in his early forties who lives with his dysfunctional family on the proceeds of his former life in the upper-class suburb of Rockford Hills, based on Beverly Hills. Trevor, his former partner in crime, lives alone in a trailer in the desert of Blaine County, where his reckless and psychopathic behaviours are fueled by drug addiction. Franklin makes a living in Vespucci Beach—based on Venice Beach—as a repo man for an unscrupulous Armenian car dealership. The three acquaintances are drawn into Los Santos' criminal underworld "in the pursuit of the almighty American dollar".

This is probably the most highly anticipated game of the year. GTA V promises even more free-roaming, more and diverse vehicles, more interactive NPC's and bags of new weapons and hobbies. Rockstar's flagship franchise hasn't seen much since GTA IV came out back in 2008. Although I'm not a real GTA fan myself, as a selfrespected gamer I'm quite curious in what ways Rockstar has evolved the succes-formula that GTA has been in the past decade.

Playstation 4

Playstation 4The PlayStation 4, officially abbreviated as PS4, is an upcoming video game console from Sony Computer Entertainment. Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 3 during a press conference on February 20, 2013, the PS4 will launch on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe, and will compete with Nintendo's Wii U and Microsoft's Xbox One, as part of the eighth generation of video game consoles.

Moving away from the complicated Cell architecture of the PlayStation 3, the PlayStation 4 will feature a simpler AMD processor, in hopes of attracting a broader range of developers and support for the system. Sony also plans to place more focus on social gameplay, incorporating a "share" button on the new controller and making it possible to view in-game play streamed live from friends. The console will focus on interactivity with other services and devices, including Gaikai, a cloud-based gaming service that will offer downloadable content and games; the PlayStation App, which will connect smartphones and tablets into a second screen to enhance gameplay; and the PlayStation Vita, which will be able to play a majority of the games through Remote Play. The PlayStation 4 will utilize a semi-custom accelerated processing unit (APU) developed by AMD in cooperation with Sony. Its APU will be a single-chip that combines a central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU), as well as other components such as a memory controller and video decoder.

The DualShock 4 will be the PlayStation 4's primary controller, retailing at US$59/€59/£54. Similar to the DualShock 3, it will connect to the console via Bluetooth 2.1 EDR. The DualShock 3, however, will not be compatible with PS4. The DualShock 4 will be equipped with several new features, including a built-in two-point capacitative touch pad on the front of the controller, which is clickable. The controller will support motion detection via a three-axis gyroscope and three-axis accelerometer and improved vibration. It will include a non-removable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery tentatively capable of storing 1000 mAh. The PlayStation Camera is a motion sensing input device for the PlayStation 4. It will include two 1280×800px cameras. The lenses will operate with an aperture of f/2.0, with 30 cm focusing distance, and an 85° field of view.

The PlayStation 4 runs an operating system called "Orbis OS." The current prototypes are based on the FreeBSD operating system. Although the PS4 does not require an Internet connection to function, Sony says the PlayStation 4's feature set is much richer when online. The PlayStation 4 will replace the XrossMediaBar with a new customizable interface titled PlayStation Dynamic Menu.

Sony seems on top of the competition if we have to believe their E3 presentation. The PS4 takes a head start in terms of online-possibilities, hardware power, game-sharing and pricing. At this point, it gives Microsoft's Xbox One a run for its money!

FIFA 14

FIFA 14===Preview===

FIFA 14 is the upcoming edition of Electronic Arts' FIFA video game series, developed by EA Canada. The game is expected to be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 24, 2013 in North America and September 26, 2013 for other regions. The game will also be released for Windows, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita - including next-generation systems PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - and on devices running Android and iOS operating systems.

Career mode has been revamped. Additions include a Global Scouting Network through most countries, which allows hiring a scout to search for talent all season from various clubs globally. Following an agreement between the Union of Professional Football Players of Montenegro, FIFPro and EA Sports, for the first time Montenegro national football team will be featured in upcoming FIFA 14 as a fully licensed team, as well as in next FIFA game series.

A new engine called the Ignite Engine will be used in FIFA 14 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. This features both graphical and gameplay changes such as Human Intelligence to make players react more like the real thing, True Player Motion to create more realistic movement from the players and more realism to the way environmental features like weather and stadium crowd dynamics develop during play. he FIFA Ultimate Team game mode will feature exclusive downloadable content on the Xbox One. On the Xbox One, there is a new feature for Ultimate team known as Legends, where players can acquire classic players from different eras of football such as Pelé and Freddie Ljungberg. A new 2v2 online seasons mode, known as Co-op Seasons, has been announced where players can play with one other friend against 2 online players. Match Day has also been expanded to affect online seasons modes.

Lionel Messi will return as the main cover star for all regions on the global cover, having been on the cover for FIFA 13 and FIFA Street. It will be the first time that the FIFA Soccer name will not be used in North America.

I expect not too much from the new FIFA, just that it does its job the way we all expect it to. So that means less bugs, more realism and BETTER graphics please. EA just for once give us a real audience? Oh and we also want the Camp Nou back... If that isn't too much asked.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Splinter Cell: Blacklist===Review===

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist is an action-adventure stealth game published by Ubisoft. It is the sixth installment of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series and is the direct sequel to Splinter Cell: Conviction. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360, in North America on August 20, 2013, Australia on August 22, 2013, Europe on August 23, 2013, and will be released in Japan on September 5, 2013.

Blacklist introduces a new gameplay mechanic called Killing in Motion, allowing the player to highlight targets and take them out in quick succession while on the run. The game is set in a third-person perspective so the protagonist and the objects around him are visible. As well, there is voice integration with Xbox 360's Kinect peripheral, which allow players to say things to distract enemies and then attack. The player can also use the Kinect sensor to control the protagonist with their body instead of the Xbox 360 controller.

In the Wii U version, the Gamepad controller's touchscreen acts as an interface to access gadgets and other features from the protagonist's arm-mounted computer, or OPSAT. It also incorporates the screen and motion controls to highlight enemies through thermal vision when using the Killing in Motion mechanic.

The "Spies vs. Mercs" competitive mode introduced in Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is again featured in Blacklist. The first look of this mode was announced to be presented on May 2, 2013 as seen in the puzzle reveal video.

Following the events of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Patricia Caldwell, the President of the United States, shuts down the corrupt Third Echelon and replaces it with a new special operations and counter-terrorism unit called Fourth Echelon – a team of elite operatives drawn from different agencies, who operate in a mobile environment and perform missions assigned directly by the Commander in Chief, led by former Third Echelon agent Sam Fisher. When a group of twelve terrorists calling themselves "The Engineers" initiate a deadly countdown of escalating attacks on United States assets called "The Blacklist", Fisher and his team are assigned to hunt them down and stop the Blacklist countdown before it reaches zero. Blacklist again stars Sam Fisher, who is now the spymaster and commander of the newly instated Fourth Echelon. The game also sees the return of Fisher's old ally, Anna 'Grim' Grímsdóttir, along with new characters such as Isaac Briggs and Charlie Cole. Victor Coste and Andriy Kobin reprise their roles from Conviction.

It was a long and tense wait for me until I got my hands on SC: Blacklist. Fortunately, it was worth the wait. Blacklist delivers a well balanced mix of the old Splinter Cell aspects and the faster-paced Conviction parts. The graphics are really spot on and set the scene. Movement is quick and fluid and the level design is impressive. Mark & execute is back, as well as a new "fluid kill" system that let's Sam move through the environment while at the same time taking down enemies. Without spoiling anything, the story is surprisingly great, comparable to the plot of the legendary Chaos Theory. Sam's new voice however is, at least for me, a major drawback. It just doesn't fit (an older) Sam Fisher, not like Ironside would have done it. The multiplayer from Pandora is back and better than ever! Not much comment there. Except for your occasional small bugs here and there, Blacklist is the Splinter Cell I was waiting for! If you liked Conviction and want that style again plus a little more freedom to do stealth, go get it!

Gears of War: Judgement

Gears of War: Judgement===Review===

Gears of War: Judgment is a third-person shooter video game, developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox 360 in North America on 19 March 2013, with subsequent regions following later that month. It is the fourth entry of the Gears of War series.

Like its predecessors, Gears of War: Judgment is a third-person shooter, with its core concepts being derived from Resident Evil 4's "over the shoulder" perspective, Kill Switch's cover system, and Bionic Commando's swinging action akin to moving between points of cover.

The game's story takes place during flashbacks recalled by Baird and his team during a hearing at a COG military tribunal. Each level is a recollection by a different member of the team. The main campaign is divided into six chapters, each with several missions. Unlike the previous games in the series, which used very large, open environments, missions are self-contained portions of the overall story and returning to earlier missions' settings is never possible. Each mission is scored on several criteria including the number of kills by the player, head shots, and gibs, and up to three stars are awarded.

Gears of War: Judgment has two new multiplayer modes, OverRun and Free-for-All. The series' trademark feature, 'Down but Not Out', is no longer in the game, resulting in the absence of executions. The game has eight maps (four of which are exclusive to OverRun and four of which are exclusive to COG versus locusts and four game modes. Several key multiplayer features of the series have been changed as well, including the ability to plant grenades on walls, damage boosts from active reloads, and the ability to carry both a shotgun and a rifle into combat.

I found GoW: Judgement a welcome addition to the Gears franchise. The combat system hasn't really been modified except for some buttonbindings, but it didn't need twitching anyway. The graphics aren't the looker they were compared to other games of this year, but it's still more than watchable. Not suffering from any of the usual "Prequel flaws", Judgement delivers a worthy Gears experience and exciting new multiplayer modes that surpass even Horde 2.0 from GoW 3. Overrun will be a new fan favourite that you can also play with friends to spice up any relax-evening.
